JOB Opening at The African Studies Centre Leiden: Knowledge Valorization Staff Member

The African Studies Centre Leiden (ASCL) is looking, for the Knowledge Platform on Inclusive Development Policies (INCLUDE), for a Knowledge Valorization Staff Member.

Key responsibilities

  • To ‘broker’ existing academic knowledge on the thematic fields of INCLUDE, i.e. productive employment, social protection and strategic actors for inclusive development, by making this knowledge available and accessible for policymakers and other stakeholders;
  • To disseminate research findings from the, to be selected, NWO/WOTRO research projects on the Political Role of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) for Inclusive Development;
  • To facilitate and ensure knowledge exchange between researchers, policymakers and other stakeholders in the Netherlands and African countries, amongst others through the organization of workshops;
  • To facilitate INCLUDEs knowledge brokering activities on the Political Role of Civil Society Organisations, in order to link and learn and to engage a wider audience of stakeholders; Read more…..

Selection criteria

  • A MA/MSc or PhD in a relevant discipline (for example economics, development studies, political science, or human geography);
  • Affinity with and knowledge of inclusive development themes;
  • Experience with both qualitative and quantitative research methods;
  • The capacity to make substantive and accessible knowledge products, such as synthesis reports, policy briefs and policy recommendations;
  • The capacity to engage with academia, policy-makers and other relevant stakeholders;
  • The ability to share academic knowledge with non-academic audiences;
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Excellent writing skills and (inter-cultural) communication skills;
  • Fluent in Dutch and English (speaking, reading, writing) (knowledge of French or Portuguese is an asset);
  • Affinity with and knowledge of the role of CSOs in development and/or lobby and advocacy is an asset;
  • Experience in Africa is an asset.
